06.10.2021 Generous villa in natural landscape

Located in the heart of the Dutch river and lake landscape up architecture designs a villa for a young family with amazing views over fields and woods. The idea behind the subtle and restrained design is to keep the intrusion of the natural landscape to a minimum. The low volume with its vernacular roof as structuring element allows nature to pass through the house and be an intrinsic part of family life. To achieve this the shape of the Villa follows the elongated site allowing the landscape to fold around the volume while keep the footprint small. The main volume is elevated on a concrete slab touching the ground slightly. Sublime transparency creates rich relationships between the interior and the surrounding farmscape. Through generous cuts in the landscape the basement floor is connected with the garden. The master bedroom, kids bedrooms, bathrooms and a spa area with pool and sauna are sheltered below ground creating an intimate private living environment in contrast to the upstairs openness. The main structure of the volume is made from wood celebrating the rich tradition of detailing wooden farm structures. The clients, professional furniture builders, wanted the experience of craftmanship and detail to be part of their home.
